Four charged with assault by mob
WOODSTOCK – Four men have each been charged with assault and battery by mob as a result of a fracas early Saturday morning on Main Street in Toms Brook.
The defendants are Todd Louis Stocking Jr., 18, of Toms Brook; Thomas Henry Caison, 19, of Arlington; Stephen Thomas Bourland Jr., 24, of Woodstock; and Machias Austin Davis, 19, of Strasburg.
Caison was also arrested and charged with assaulting a juvenile in the same incident.
Maj. Scott Proctor of the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office said one person, a 21-year-old man from Mount Jackson, was injured and treated at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital for a cut on his cheek and bruising around the lip.
“It appears the 21-year old victim was hit by all four defendants,” Proctor said.
Proctor said his agency received a call at around 6 a.m. about an assault victim at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.
Proctor said deputies arriving at the scene found two victims, the Mount Jackson man, and a 16-year-old girl from Broadway who said she had been assaulted before the man.
Proctor said the girl told deputies that Caison attacked her at 3:30 a.m. around the same place on Main Street where the man was assaulted.
“She reported she had been struck or slapped across the face and had fallen to the ground,” Proctor said.
The Sheriff’s Office has no indication that the girl was injured or required any medical assistance, although she was at the hospital at the same time as the injured man, Proctor said.
Proctor said all of the defendants except Caison have been released on bond from the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail. All are scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Aug. 19 in Shenandoah County General District Court.
