Man charged with brandishing, handling firearm
Authorities charged a Mount Jackson man with the brandishing and reckless handling of a firearm Sunday.
According to Captain Wes Dellinger with the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the 6500 block of Orkney Grade following a report of shots being fired in the area.
The officers discovered the caller to be the victim, who claimed Leroy Edward Owens, 60, of 6544 Orkney Grade, fired a pistol at the ground near his feet.
“The suspect approached the victim to receive some property,” Dellinger said. “These folks knew each other. Mr. Owens discharged a firearm into the ground near the victim.”
Dellinger declined to name the victim, but said he was an adult male.
While he did not specify further, Dellinger said alcohol was a contributing factor to the shooting.
Owens has been released on a $1,500 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County General District Court at 2 p.m. Oct. 2.
