Basketball coach charged with DUI
A Central High School basketball coach was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he was pulled over Oct. 6.
Jeffrey D. Whittle, 36, of 451 Virginia Road, Strasburg, was pulled over after a police officer noticed him driving through a red light and swerving into a lane of oncoming traffic, according to the criminal complaint.
Strasburg Police officer C. Whorton stated in the arrest warrant that he smelled alcohol on Whittle’s person, that his eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred.
Whittle then failed three sobriety tests before being offered a field blood alcohol analysis, in which he registered a blood alcohol content of .180.
According the warrant, Whittle was asked numerous times how much alcohol he had consumed and he said “none” every time.
Central High School officials could not be reached for comment regarding Whittle’s status as coach.
This is Whittle’s first year as head coach of the Central High School’s boys’ basketball team.
