Man appears in court, detained on other charges
A Maurertown man who has been charged with three counts of domestic assault in Virginia was detained in Shenandoah County Circuit Court on Wednesday following a tip that he’s wanted in West Virginia for similar charges.
According to Maj. Scott Proctor, the Sheriff’s Office was tipped off about the suspect, Marcus Alan Kibler’s, West Virginia charges. Proctor did not know the source of the information.
“Somehow, someone must have known he was wanted out of West Virginia, and they must have notified our court,” he said. “My assumption is the Circuit Court notified us.”
Proctor said he did not know the specifics of the charges from West Virginia, but he said they were domestic in nature and came from Hardy County.
The Hardy County Sheriff’s Office could not be reached for comment.
Under Virginia code, three charges of domestic assault stack up to form a felony. Kibler appeared in Circuit Court for his third charge in Shenandoah County. For more information on Kibler’s felony domestic assault charge, see The Northern Virginia Daily’s original story at http://tiny.cc/jdxmfy.
Kibler is being held in the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail. He is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Friday in Shenandoah County Circuit Court. Proctor said the suspect has been detained as a fugitive from justice. Once authorities from West Virginia obtain a fugitive from justice warrant, a process of extradition will begin.
