Man jailed in series of hotel sex assaults

A Front Royal man has been jailed in Prince William County after his arrest for what police describe as a series of sexual assaults in a Manassas hotel.

The defendant, Brandon Charles Murdock, 31, of 518 Carter St., was charged with burglary and attempted aggravated sexual assault following his arrest Thursday at the hotel.

Murdock’s arrest came after detectives reserved a room at the hotel, used a decoy and placed it in a bed. Detectives say Murdoch entered the room and approached the bed before they arrested him.

Sgt. Jonathan Perok, a police department spokesman, refused to say what kind of decoy was used.

“I don’t know the history of it to be honest,” Perok said. “I’m sure the department has used it before. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s unusual.”

Detectives say they subsequently traced three cases of sexual assault at the hotel to Murdock. One was recorded on Sept. 15 when a 63-year-old woman reported that she was awakened by an unidentified man touching her. The victim screamed and the man fled the room. Police reported no injuries.

The second incident, recorded on Oct. 6, 2015, involved a 15-year-old girl as the victim. She told school staff members traveling with her that she was sleeping in her room when she awakened and found an unidentified man touching her. The man then fled the room.

Detectives who were called to investigate the case later learned of a similar incident the day before involving a 16-year-old girl who was traveling with the first victim as part of a school trip.

No one was injured in any of the three incidents, and there were no signs of forced entry into the rooms.
