A state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center is scheduled to open in Winchester in late fall 2017.

Valley Health System and Winchester surgeons held a groundbreaking ceremony Friday afternoon for the Valley Health Surgery Center to be built on property west of state Route 37, adjacent to the Courtyard Marriott Winchester Medical Center hotel.

According to a Valley Health news release, the new center is a joint venture between the not-for-profit regional health system and the Winchester Medical Center medical community “to meet a growing demand for convenient, high quality, cost-effective outpatient surgical services for the region.”

Mark Merrill, president and CEO of Valley Health, stated in the release that Valley Health is pleased about the results of collaborations between groups of physicians who shared a vision to provide “easily-accessible, efficient patient care.”

“Working together, we have created a positive model for physician-hospital collaboration, demonstrating the power of working together for shared benefit – for our patients, our community, physician partners and Valley Health,” he added.
