Bicyclist struck by SUV in Strasburg
A vehicle struck a man on a bicycle on U.S. Route 11 in Strasburg around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday.
According to Capt. Wayne Sager of the Strasburg Police Department, the victim is in critical condition and was airlifted to Winchester Medical Center.
“His status is unknown at this time, and it’s about 50-50 with what happens,” Sager said, in reference to the victim’s chances of survival.
Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler with the Virginia State Police Department, said the bicyclist was traveling southbound on Route 11 when he was “struck from behind by an SUV.”
The incident occurred near the Advanced Auto Parts at 33558 Old Valley Pike, about a half mile south of the 298 interchange for Interstate 81.
The case is under investigation by Trooper J.T. Custer of the Virginia State Police crash reconstruction team. The department was also assisted by Shenandoah County Fire & Rescue units, Tyler said.
