Council announces dates for town events

MIDDLETOWN – Town Council met Tuesday night to remind residents of several important dates coming up around town.

Mayor Charles Harbaugh IV said the town will be lighting its Christmas tree at dusk on Nov. 25.

He also said the town Christmas parade will begin its procession at 2 p.m. Dec. 4.

Along with the announcements, council also renamed a portion of Sixth Street as Veterans Way. This finalizes the street renaming process. Other pieces of the road had already been renamed to coincide with last week’s Veterans’ Memorial Wall dedication.

Also at the meeting, Gilbert “Gil” Barrington, who recently completed an unsuccessful run for a seat on council, spoke in the public comment section. He said he wanted to thank the council extensively for its help with the dedication event.

He also congratulated the three incumbent council members – Carolyn Aliff, George “Jay” Smith and Carole Snyder Jones – and wished them luck in their forthcoming terms.

Looking ahead, Town Council is scheduled to meet for a committee meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 22 and for a work session at 7 p.m. Dec. 5.
