Stephens City vice mayor running for re-election

Ron Bowers

Ron Bowers, vice mayor of Stephens City, is running for his eighth term on Town Council.

Bowers, 79, lives in town with his wife Lucille and son Kevin and has been in Stephens City for 28 years. He retired from Shockey Companies as safety and liability director 23 years ago and is one of two incumbents seeking re-election to Town Council this November.

Bowers. elected to the council in 1988, serves as chairman of the town’s public safety committee and parks and recreation committee. He said public safety has always been a town concern and the park is a frequently used asset.

“I like to review the issues that come before council and resolve them timely or as soon as possible,” he said. “I’m pretty much adamant about that, I just don’t like to see things go on and on.”

He has served as vice mayor since 2014, when Mike Grim was elected Stephens City mayor. Bowers ran as a write-in candidate for that race. While on Town Council, Bowers helped to create the Newtown Heritage Festival and establish the town’s veterans memorial.

He said Stephens City hopefully will be experiencing future growth.

“There is some possibility for some residential growth within the community,” he said.
