Man indicted in underage sex case
WOODSTOCK – A New Mexico man has been indicted in Shenandoah County Circuit Court on several counts linking him to an alleged sex act and several related offenses involving a 15-year-old girl.
The indictment identifies the defendant as Timothy Ducharme, 21. Maj. Scott Proctor of the Sheriff’s Office said Ducharme first came under investigation in April after the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from a family member of the alleged victim.
“A relative of the female reported that the 15-year-old and the adult male were engaged in an inappropriate relationship,” Proctor said.
Authorities say that Ducharme was exchanging sexually improper text messages with the girl.
Ducharme was an active member of the Marines stationed at the base in Quantico at the time of the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office worked with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service in assembling its case against Ducharme.
“They were the ones who took him into custody on our warrants,” Proctor said of the Navy investigative service.
Ducharme is charged with possession of child pornography; committing a sexual offense with a minor by computer; and engaging in consensual sex with a child at least 15-years-old or older.
Ducharme’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 11 in Shenandoah County Circuit Court.
