Town makes appointment recommendations

NEW MARKET – Town Council made two appointments and one recommendation to the Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors at its monthly meeting Monday night.

Darryl Watkins was unanimously appointed to the town’s planning commission, and council unanimously agreed to recommend the appointment of Charles “Eddie” Litten to New Market’s board of zoning appeals. That recommendation will be made to Shenandoah County Circuit Court. Also, Bruce Alger will be recommended to the Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors for appointment to the county’s parks and recreation advisory board.

Town Manager Mike Ritchie said, “Mr. Watkins’ appointment will be for the unexpired portion of the term.”

Ritchie said that Litten’s term will run through 2020.

Alger’s recommendation was also unanimously passed.

“The (Alger’s) position has been held for the last few years by Mr. Larry Smith, who has relocated,” Ritchie said. “Mr Alger’s term will run through December of 2019.”
