Belushi to serve as festival grand marshal

WINCHESTER – Actor Jim Belushi will serve as the 2017 grand marshal of the 90th anniversary of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival.

WINCHESTER – Actor Jim Belushi will serve as the 2017 grand marshal of the 90th anniversary of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival.

Festival President Mike Stanfield announced Belushi as grand marshal Tuesday afternoon, saying he was glad to have one of their top choices agree to stop by the festival.

This year’s festival theme is “Bloomtown: Bringing the WOW for 90 Years,” and looks forward to what “wow” Belushi will bring with him, Stanfield said.

“This gentleman is coming to Bloomtown to enjoy the festival with us,” he added.

According to a festival news release, Belushi is starring in Woody Allen’s upcoming untitled feature, Jason Katims’ Showtime pilot of “Mating,” the Amazon series “Good Girls Revolt,” the reboot of David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks,” Lionsgate feature “The Whole Truth,” the mini-series for HBO called “Show Me a Hero,” and Wayne Roberts’ film “Katie Says Goodbye.”

Stanfield added that Belushi’s only public appearance at the 2017 festival will be as grand marshal of the Grand Feature Parade. Tickets to festival seating for the grand feature parade are on sale at the Festival Souvenir Store and Ticket Outlet at 212 E. Cork St. Festival seating at the Handley Library and on Cork Street are selling out quickly and festival seating on Handley Boulevard is also selling fast.

The Grand Feature Parade will be held at 1:30 p.m. May 6, stretching from Old Town Winchester to the Handley school area.
