A ‘Day of Caring’
FRONT ROYAL – Volunteers built a handicap ramp for a town resident as part of the 2017 Day of Caring projects being completed throughout the county.
Martha Buracker, team captain of the handicap ramp project, said United Way paid for all the building materials to build the ramp for Cynthia DeNeal, who has had a difficult time getting her walker up the porch steps at her home.
Dave Buracker, owner of Buracker Construction, said four volunteers started work at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and finished up around 11:30 a.m.
“This will be nice for her,” he added about the construction of the ramp.
He said he has volunteered his time and construction crew to United Way and other organizations in years past to help out those in need.
Merry-Lynn (Kat) Sheetz, executive assistant of United Way of Front Royal/Warren County, said 145 people volunteered to help complete 18 projects throughout the county, including home repairs, cleaning, painting, yard work and landscaping during the 2017 Day of Caring.
Due to the recent rainy weather, the projects were delayed but are now being completed on good weather days individually rather than all in one day, she said, adding that United Way has committed volunteers who are willing to take the time to help complete these projects as quickly as possible.
