Wednesday, May 14, 2008 *No injuries in runway crash at regional airportBy Alex BridgesDaily Staff Writer WINCHESTER An airplane crashed before take-off at a regional airport Tuesday night. The pilot was unharmed and left the craft with minor damage. Robert B. Miller started to taxi his fixed-wing, single-engine aircraft to a runway at the Winchester Regional Airport around 9:40 p.m., according to Sgt. F.L. Tyler, public information officer with the Virginia State Police. Miller, of Hamilton, followed the wrong line, ran over an embankment and the plane fell into a ditch, Tyler said. The pilot didn't report any injuries and the craft sustained only minor damage, Tyler said. Police and rescue crews responded to the airport. Tyler said it did not appear that any fuel leaked from the plane as a result of the crash. Trooper D.E. Adams investigated the incident and Tyler said no charges likely were filed against Miller for the incident. |
