Motorcycle, car involved in Interstate 81 crash
A motorcycle and a car were involved in a crash on northbound Interstate 81 Sunday evening in Shenandoah County.
According to Virginia State Police Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler, at 4:25 p.m. Sunday, a 2004 Pontiac was traveling in the left lane at mile marker 292 when the driver slowed for traffic. The car was struck in the rear by a 2005 Harley Davidson driven by Matthew Eckard, 28, of New Market, New Hampshire. Also on the motorcycle was Kayla Eckard, 29. Both passengers on the motorcycle were taken to Winchester Medical Center. No comment was given on the extent of their injuries. The passengers in the Pontiac were uninjured.
The crash was investigated by trooper C.S. Cline and was assisted by Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Matthew Eckard was charged with following too closely, Tyler said.
