Woodstock incumbents lose all seats
WOODSTOCK — Three Town Council incumbents were swept out of office in Tuesday's election. Challengers Jacqueline Lambert, H.E. "Ed" Munden and Alicia Gutshall — each of whom has said the current panel spends too much money — mounted successful campaigns, garnering 569, 565 and 494 votes, respectively, according to complete but unofficial returns.

Strasburg council has four new members
STRASBURG — Four new faces will join the Strasburg Town Council in July. In Tuesday's election, council candidates Justin M. Ritenour, Robert B. Baker, Richard A. Redmon and L. Carlyle Swafford beat out Richard A. Seelbach, former Mayor Richard A. Orndorff and incumbent council members Edith Wallace and Carl J. Rinker for council seats now occupied by Steve Nicholson, Tim Taylor, Rinker and Wallace. Taylor was the only candidate for mayor.

Front Royal elects mayor, three new councilmen
FRONT ROYAL — Town Councilman Eugene R. Tewalt collected 864 votes Tuesday to earn election as Front Royal's next mayor, according to complete but unofficial returns. Tewalt, 65, who is in his sixth year on the council, defeated former panel member Hollis L. Tharpe 864-517 in Tuesday's balloting, according to the Warren County Electoral Board. Three new councilmen also were elected.

Mt. Jackson incumbents to be joined by Fadely
MT. JACKSON — Current Town Council members Rod Shepherd and Bucky Miller will be joined by Neil Fadely as a colleague the next four years, according to complete but unofficial election results reported Tuesday night. Shepherd and Miller were re-elected, while Fadely was elected to serve his first term. Miller received the most votes with 166, while Fadely came in second at 160 and Shepherd third with 141.

Election results: in brief
Current Berryville Ward 4 Councilman Wilson L. Kirby defeated Alyssa Adams for mayor on Tuesday, according to unofficial election results from Clarke County Registrar Barbara Bosserman. Kirby received 389 votes, or 79 percent, to Adams' 104, or 21 percent. There were 511 votes cast out of a possible 2,471. The Town Council likely will appoint someone to fill the remaining two years of Kirby's term on council, Bosserman said.

TOMS BROOK — Though five incumbents are seeking re-election, there may still be an open seat on the Town Council after Tuesday's election. According to the office of Shenandoah County Registrar Lisa P. McDonald, incumbent council members Teresa S. Funkhouser, Keith A. Johnson, Trina L. Robey, Walter A. Stepp and Loleta L. Stickler qualified to run for the six open council seats. Mayor Phil Fauber is the only qualified candidate for mayor.

EDA funds shaping up to be Front Royal election issue
FRONT ROYAL — The strained relationship between the town and the Front Royal-Warren County Economic Development Authority, and the question of whether the EDA should relinquish much of its money, promises to be an issue in the Town Council elections May 6. In recent meetings, the Town Council has discussed the possible redistribution of funds belonging to the EDA and the resumption of liaison committee meetings with the Board of Supervisors.

Front Royal hopefuls fall just short
FRONT ROYAL — Less than 24 hours after the deadline for candidates to file for the May 6 Town Council elections, two of the hopefuls have learned they apparently do not have the required signatures of 125 registered town voters. Warren County Registrar Carol L. Tobin said Wednesday that seven candidates vying for three council seats and two candidates for mayor had filed by 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Candidates are advised to submit 185 to 200 signatures to ensure they have the required number, she said.

Woodstock incumbents face trio of challengers
WOODSTOCK — Three challengers will join the trio of incumbents vying for three open seats on Woodstock's Town Council during the May 6 election. Six people have qualified to run for the council seats now occupied by Michael Funk-houser, Maxwell Hutton and John Manuel, according to the office of Shenandoah County Registrar Lisa P. McDonald. Councilmen proclaim mayoral ambitions
MIDDLETOWN — Two current Town Council members are planning to run for mayor in Frederick County's southernmost town. Mark J. Brown and Donald E. Breeden, whose terms end in June, said Thursday that they plan to seek the mayor's office in the May 6 council elections. In addition to Brown and Breeden, the terms of Mayor Gene T. Dicks and Councilwoman Mary L. Shull also end in June, according to the Frederick County voter registrar's office.
