Front Royal man killed in ATV crash

Keith Sanker

A Front Royal man was killed early Wednesday morning when he lost control of the ATV he was driving and struck a tree, said Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler, public information officer for the Virginia State Police.

“It happened at approximately 1:49 a.m. on Route 613, 1.5 miles north of Route 628,” Tyler said. “It was a single vehicle crash involving a 2001 Honda ATV. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Route 613 when the driver lost control as he entered a right-hand curve. He ran off the roadway to the left and struck a tree.”

Tyler identified the driver as Keith Patrick Sanker, 19, of Front Royal.

“He died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash,” Tyler said.

Tyler said Sanker was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle when it hit the tree.

Investigating officer B.G. Davis noted in his report that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Tyler said that speed may have been a factor.

Sanker was a football and wrestling standout at Skyline High School, leading the Hawks’ football team in tackles last season with 118. He graduated in June.
