Three taken to hospital following state Route 55 crash

A head-on collision occurred early Monday morning when a motorist crossed the center line on state Route 55, a half-mile east of state Route 664 in Warren County, and collided with another car.

Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler, public information officer for the Virginia State Police, said that Ronald C. Whizman, 43, of Sneads, Florida, was driving a 2008 Honda Civic when he drifted into the westbound traffic lane and collided with a 2005 Honda Civic.

“(Whizman) struck a 2005 Honda Civic head-on,” Tyler said. “That was being operated by Marina Aguirre, age 56, from Front Royal. She was flown to Winchester Medical. She had a passenger in the car, Ines Graczyk, age 57. She was taken to Winchester Medical. Mr. Whizman was taken to Warren Memorial Hospital and then flown to Inova Fairfax.”

Tyler could not comment on the extent of their injuries.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, Tyler said. All three individuals involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.

“The roadway was closed for about an hour and a half,” Tyler said. “… The crash was investigated by Trooper K.J. Orr, and the trooper was assisted at the scene by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Warren County Fire and Rescue and the Front Royal Police Department.”
