Four sent to hospital after weekend crash

A single-vehicle crash in Warren County on Saturday evening sent four people to the hospital, according to Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler, public information officer for the Virginia State Police.

“The vehicle was traveling northbound on 638 (Howellsville Road) when it ran off the road to the right and went into a ditch and struck a culvert that was in the ditch, and then the vehicle overturned,” Tyler said.

The vehicle, a 2008 Honda CR-V sport utility vehicle, was being driven by Sharon Cantelon, age 68, of Ashburn. There were three others in the car: The front seat passenger was Sharon Cantelon’s mother, Lucille Cantelon, 96. The two back seat passengers were Sharon Cantelon’s daughter, Ruth Maria, 44, and Audrone Pakstys, 74.

The two in the front seat were wearing seat belts, while the two back-seat passengers were not, Tyler said. All four were taken to Winchester Medical Center. Their status is unknown.

Trooper J.D. Skeith investigated the crash, and Tyler said Skeith determined that neither speed nor alcohol was a factor.

Tyler said that Skeith determined that driver inattention was to blame and that charges will not be brought. Assisting Skeith were the Warren County Sheriff’s Department and Warren County Fire and Rescue.
