Edinburg Dollar General to hold grand opening

The new Dollar General store in Edinburg will be holding its grand opening Saturday at the site of the former C.E. Thompson store, 201 Stoney Creek Blvd.

Grand opening festivities are slated to begin at 8 a.m. and include giveaways and special deals, according to a news release from Dollar General.

The first 50 adult shoppers in the door on Saturday will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card, and the first 200 in the store will receive a Dollar General tote bag, with other giveaways planned as well.

“Dollar General is committed to delivering a pleasant shopping experience that includes a convenient location, a wide assortment of merchandise and great prices on quality products,” Dan Nieser, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development, was quoted as saying in the release. “We hope our Edinburg customers will enjoy shopping at Dollar General’s new location.”

Michelle Heier, Edinburg’s treasurer, said the town is thrilled to have Dollar General there.

“Edinburg is very excited to have them become a part of our town,” she stated in an email. “Not only will it be an excellent source of revenue for the town, but a huge convenience for our residents. We now have a store in town where our folks can go get what they need without having to leave the town limits. The town Office staff feels this store will be a huge asset to the town.”

Typically, Dollar General stores employ six to 10 people depending on need, according to the release.
