Bret W. Hrbek, of the financial services firm Edward Jones in Front Royal, recently won the firm’s Jim McKenzie Award for exceptional achievement in building client relationships. He is one of 1,501 of the firm’s more than 15,000 financial advisers to receive the award.
William (Bill) H. Hayter, president & CEO/director of First Bank & Trust Co., has been named chairman of the Virginia Bankers Association. He succeeds John G. Stallings, president & CEO of the Virginia Division of SunTrust Bank, to become VBA’s 125th chairman.
Hayter is a native of Washington County and a graduate of Virginia Tech. He was instrumental in the first operating days of First Russell County Bank, which eventually became known as The First Bank & Trust Company, which opened its doors in 1979 in Lebanon. Under his leadership, the bank has grown from a single office with $1 million in assets, to 21 offices and more than $1.4 billion in assets, up and down the Interstate 81 corridor in Southwest Virginia, Northeast Tennessee and the Shenandoah Valley.
Scott C. Harvard, CEO and president of First National Corp. and CEO of First Bank in Strasburg, has been named chairman-elect of the Virginia Bankers Association. He will begin that position next June.
Prior to joining First National Corp., Harvard owned and operated Harvard Resources from 2009 to 2011. He served as the president and CEO of Shore Bank from 1985 to 2008 and as executive vice president of Delmarva Operations at Hampton Roads Bankshares Inc. from June 2008 to June 2009.
He served as the chairman of Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta, a subsidiary of Federal Home Loan Banks, from 2007 to 2012 and recently rejoined the board.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Rollins College and has participated in a number of banking-associated schools.
