Economic Development Council announces its second annual breakfast
The Shenandoah County Chamber’s Economic Development Council will host its second annual breakfast at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. Del. C. Todd Gilbert, R-Woodstock, and Sen. Mark D. Obenshain, R-Harrisonburg, are co-hosting the breakfast.
Last year’s breakfast wasn’t announced to the public. The Chamber of Commerce invited select business owners and leaders in the community, Sharon Baroncelli, executive director of the chamber said. The first breakfast served as the kickoff and announcement of the Economic Development Council.
The council focuses on growing and expanding businesses in Shenandoah County. One goal of the council is to create more public funding for public services. More businesses mean more tax revenue for “core community services.”
Jason El Koubi, executive vice president of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, will give the keynote address. Jenna French, director of tourism and economic development for Shenandoah County, will also be presenting.
The speakers were chosen as a result of their partnership with the council over the last year.
“It was a culmination of the work that the Economic Development Council has been doing,” Baroncelli said. “We’ve been working closely with Del. Gilbert and Sen. Obenshain and they shared what other delegates are doing in the region.”
This year’s event — entitled “State Resources to Grow your Business” — will feature a number of state agencies for business owners and leaders to talk with after the presentations. Other delegates around the state have used the “trade show” format planned for the breakfast to great success,” Baroncelli said.
“They bring the state agencies into a forum setting so they can share with business owners what opportunities exist to grow a business, to grow a workforce, to find funding,” Baroncelli said about similar meetings. “We thought it would be perfect with the work the EDC is doing to tie it into our annual breakfast since we have so many business leaders at one time in one place.”
The event will be held at Shentel’s corporate office. Chamber members receive their first ticket free –additional employees are $12 each. Non-chamber members can attend for $25. Online registration is now open at http://www.shenandoahcountychamber.com/event-3028114
