Pet of the Week: Asia jumps for forever home

By Josette Keelor

Asia loves to jump.

When asked to speak, she answers with enthusiasm.

Recently surrendered to the Frederick County Animal Shelter, the 9-year-old whippet and Jack Russell terrier mix is high-energy but well trained, said animal caretaker, Kamryn Dixon.

“She can sit, shake, lay down, roll over, doesn’t mind being held,” Dixon said. “She loves having a comfy bed to sleep on too.”

“I would say if anything, maybe her only problem is if she jumps up, because she loves to jump,” Dixon said.

Asia’s $100 adoption fee includes a $70 deposit to have her spayed, and Dixon said the adopting family can choose a vet of their choice.

“This time of year we start getting flooded,” Dixon said. “It’s mostly cats this time of year. You know, spring is in the air or something. It’s nothing for us to get one or two more cats in here a month. Dogs we’re usually better about getting adopted out.”

Asia came to the shelter alone, but she seems to get along with cats and dogs alike.

Her family surrendered her when they had to move, Dixon said.

“So now she’s here at the shelter waiting ’til she finds her new forever home.”

Frederick County Animal Shelter is located at 161 Fort Collier Road, Winchester. For more information on Asia, call 540-667-9192.
