Front Royal man dies in crash

A two-vehicle accident Tuesday evening on Remount Road resulted in the death of a Front Royal man.

State Police Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler said the crash occurred at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, three-tenths of a mile south of Harmony Hollow Road on U.S. Route 522 in Front Royal.

He said Nolan Patrick Best, a 24-year-old Front Royal resident, was driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla northbound when he crossed over the center line and struck a 2015 Chevy pickup head-on.

Journal Phillips, a 68-year-old Front Royal resident, was driving the pickup at the time of the crash. Phillips’ 12-year-old granddaughter was also in the vehicle with him. Tyler said both were taken to Warren Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but that Best died at the scene.

Tyler said all three individuals were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and alcohol was not a factor.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Warren County Fire and Rescue aided in the incident. Tyler said the roadway was clear by about 7 to 7:40 p.m.
