Man killed by tree in storm identified
Authorities with the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office have identified the Manassas man who was killed when struck by a tree during the storm Thursday.
Maj. Scott Proctor, of the Sheriff’s Office, said the victim’s name is Matthew Wade Barto, 31, of Manassas.
Proctor said Barto was outside of a Toyota pickup truck, assisting his wife and one other passenger back up the driveway at 22623 Old Valley Pike in Woodstock when a wind gust knocked the tree over.
It struck Barto, killing him, and hit the truck as well. Barto’s wife and the additional passenger, whose names have not been released, have left Shenandoah Memorial Hospital with no lasting injuries, Proctor said.
According to Proctor, the three were visiting the area viewing homes for sale.
