Strasburg juvenile charged with rape
A 17-year-old Strasburg boy has been charged with rape by force of threat following an incident that occurred in October, according to a Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
A juvenile female reported to police on Oct. 14 that she had been raped in Strasburg on or about Oct. 9, according to a search warrant filed in Shenandoah County Circuit Court.
Lt. Chris Baker, of the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office, said authorities are considering trying the suspect as an adult.
The search, which was executed Nov. 9, led to the seizure of data from the suspect’s iPhone, including conversations with the victim and a mutual friend, and communications between the suspect and victim.
After the victim reported the crime, Investigator G.R. Poe conducted an interview with her. She then provided Poe with written communication between her and the suspect.
“Inv. Poe was provided with written electronic communication between (the suspect) and the victim that was indicative that (the suspect) had taken responsibility for his involvement in the attack and had contacted the victim on the premise of attempting to extend an apology to the victim for his involvement in the sexual assault,” the warrant states.
The warrant also states the victim provided Poe with written electronic communication between the suspect and a mutual friend. In this conversation, the suspect indicated he did not know why he assaulted the victim, that he could not control himself and that he felt bad following the event.
