Tractor-trailer overturns on interstate on Monday

A single-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer sent one man to the hospital Monday night, said Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler, public information officer for the Virginia State Police.

The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Interstate 81 at the 301.9 mile marker just south of state Route 627 near Middletown.

“The tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on Interstate 81 when it ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a guard rail,” Tyler said. “The driver then cut back across the southbound lanes, went into the median and overturned.”

Tyler identified the driver of the tractor-trailer, a 1998 International, as Nioslandy S. Villalon, 28, of High Point, North Carolina. He was transported to Winchester Medical Center.

Trooper S.R. Marks investigated the crash. Based on Marks’ investigation, Villalon was charged with reckless driving.
