A two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon sent one person to the hospital and affected traffic on Interstate 81 for several hours.

Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler, public information officer for the Virginia State Police, said a 2001 Honda four-door vehicle was southbound at about 4:10 p.m. in the right lane at the 283.4 mile marker near Woodstock when it ran off the pavement and struck the rear of a 2015 Freightliner tractor trailer. The truck was stopped on the right shoulder of the southbound lane.

Tyler said the driver of the Honda was flown to Inova Hospital in Fairfax.

Tyler noted that there were two passengers in the tractor trailer, both of whom were uninjured. The identification of the drivers has not been released while the crash remains under investigation.

Trooper M.T. Brill is investigating the crash. He was assisted at the scene by Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office, Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue and the Virginia Department of Transportation.
