School Board to hold budget work session
The Shenandoah County Public Schools School Board will hold a work session on Thursday to discuss the budget.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the School Board Office Training Room on the second floor of the Shenandoah County Government Building in Woodstock.
Superintendent Mark Johnston said he plans to review a model for continuous improvement to set the stage for the Board’s discussion during the meeting. The meeting will also include a review of the division’s goals and beliefs.
“From there, we will review a variety of data to include who are the students we teach, which will include preschool- 12 enrollment, kindergarten to 12 enrollment, English Learners enrollment, special education, and free and reduced lunch numbers,” he added.
He said the Board will also review and discuss the Capital Improvement Plan data and historical funding, as well as unmet needs from several of the past budget cycles.
“It is my hope that when I present my needs-based budget on Feb. 9, there should be few surprises,” Johnston said.
He said he does not plan to include or discuss specific budget proposals, but he does want to review the division’s needs.
