VDOT to close lanes on bridge
Drivers can expect lane closures on U.S. 11 at the Cedar Creek Bridge north of Strasburg beginning Monday.
The Virginia Department of Transportation recently began work to build a new bridge over the creek at the Shenandoah-Warren county line between Strasburg and Middletown. Contractors plan to replace the northbound and southbound bridges with a new, two-lane structure on the northbound crossing.
Motorists should watch for periodic lane closures on U.S. 11 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Oranda Road and Shenandoah County and Water Plant Road in Warren County through March and April.
Beginning Monday, crews will close the left lanes of northbound and southbound U.S. 11 during construction of crossover lanes in the median. Crews will restrict traffic to the right lane in each direction. In early April, once crews complete construction of the crossover lanes, both directions of U.S. 11 will start using the southbound bridge. Northbound traffic will follow the median crossovers on both ends of the work zone. This traffic pattern will remain in place for the duration of the project.
The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded a $6.9 million contract to Perry Engineering Co. Inc., of Winchester. The contract has a completion date of November 2018.
