Teen bicyclist struck by pick-up truck

Virginia State Police are investigating a hit and run north of New Market on Tuesday morning involving a teenage bicyclist and a pick-up truck.

A 17-year-old boy was traveling northbound by bicycle on U.S. 11 near Snuffy Lane when he was struck from behind by an older-model Chevrolet pick-up truck. Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler of the Virginia State Police said the victim described the truck as being silver with red trim. Tyler said it was last seen traveling northbound on U.S. 11.

The victim was taken to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries. Tyler declined to comment on the seriousness of the victim’s injuries as the investigation is still ongoing.

Shenandoah County Department of Fire and Rescue, New Market fire and rescue, and New Market police also responded to the Tuesday morning crash. The investigation was then transferred to state police.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or the driver is asked to contact Virginia State Police Trooper M.T. Brill at 540-829-7771.
