Fort Valley man arrested in ATM robbery

WOODSTOCK — Local police arrested a Fort Valley man on Tuesday in connection with an ATM robbery at the Sheetz store in town.

Joseph Michael Davet, 22, allegedly walked into the store just before noon on Tuesday and waited by the PNC Bank ATM. A woman approached the ATM and withdrew $200, in $20 bills, and the woman’s friend took the money once it was dispensed, the criminal complaint states.

Davet allegedly ran by the friend and grabbed the money from her hand before running out of the store and leaving the scene in his vehicle. The complaint also alleges that he admitted to committing the crime once he was in police custody. Davet has been charged with one count of robbery.

According to the bail determination form in the case, Davet pleaded guilty in 2014 to trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also has a criminal history that includes vandalism and shoplifting.

Davet is being held without bond at Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail at this time. A bond hearing in this case is scheduled for Friday in Shenandoah County General District Court.
