Two arrested in Walmart shoplifting incident
A man and woman were arrested in Winchester Wednesday in connection with a shoplifting incident at the Walmart in Front Royal after a search warrant for the pair’s residence led to the recovery of some of the stolen merchandise.
Robert Earl Shinaul, Jr., 32, and Skylar Nicole Smith, 20, are accused of stealing a shopping cart full of merchandise on Saturday morning from the store. When a store employee tried to write down the tag number of the pair’s vehicle, Shinaul allegedly grabbed the employee’s arm and took the paper from her hand, according to a Facebook post from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. Shinaul is also accused of assaulting a man who was trying to help the employee stop the theft.
Authorities were able to identify Shinaul and Smith with the public’s help after the Facebook post was published on Sunday, Investigator Brad Pugh with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office said. Pugh added that he could not say exactly what was taken from the Walmart, but that the total value of the items stolen is $467.07.
Both Shinaul and Smith were charged with one count of robbery and one count of felony shoplifting, and authorities said other charges for the two could be added later, as the case is still under investigation. Shinaul has failure to appear and misdemeanor assault charges pending in Winchester General District Court, and also has charges from New York City where he is from.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for a possible victim: the man who Shinaul allegedly assaulted. Authorities described him as a male in his late 20s or early 30s, with a beard and a mustache, and wearing a black t-shirt, khaki shorts, a tan colored hat and sunglasses.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Pugh at 540-635-7100 or email@example.com.
