Another arrest in shooting of child
Another arrest has been made in the shooting of a 4-year-old girl by a 2-year-old boy.
The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office charged Destinie Rochelle Beach, 21, of Stephens City, with abuse and neglect of children and possession and/ or transportation of a firearm by a non-violent felon.
Beach turned herself in at the Sheriff’s Office on Thursday morning. She was booked into the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center and held on a $5,000 bond.
The shooting occurred Friday in a vehicle stopped at a truck stop in the 9700 block of James Madison Highway in the Opal area of Fauquier County.
Law enforcement allege Beach and Isaiah Marshall Davis, 26, went inside a convenience store at the stop and left three children unattended inside the vehicle where a loaded gun had been left behind. The third child was believed to be a toddler, according to a previous interview with Sgt. James Hartman, public information officer with the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the 2 year old shot the girl in the upper body.
The adults drove away with the children. They were found hours later in Colonial Beach in Westmoreland County.
Davis was arrested by Colonial Beach police when they were called to a motel regarding a domestic disturbance. Police found the girl and had her transported to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, where she was treated and released. Police found in the motel room a .22-caliber weapon that could have been involved in the shooting.
Davis was charged by Fauquier County with a felony charge of abuse and neglect of children, reckless handing of a firearm, and allowing children access to a firearm. He was charged by Westmoreland County with non-violent felony possession of a gun.
Both have at least one prior felony and are not allowed to be in possession of and/or transporting a gun.
Davis remains incarcerated as of Thursday afternoon in the Northern Neck Regional jail, according to jail staff.
Authorities in Fauquier County and Colonial Beach did not release what the prior felony convictions for Davis or Beach were.
