Woodstock man arrested on child abuse charges

WOODSTOCK — The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office arrested a local man Thursday after he allegedly struck his 6-year-old son in the face multiple times.

A criminal complaint states that Juan Andres Estrella Polanco struck his son eight times in the face on the night of Oct. 3 because Planco was “mad at him for his behavior at school.” The complaint also states that the boy’s nose was bleeding as a result and was swollen when investigators arrived to photograph him. There were also bruises under both of the boy’s eyes and on his left cheek, the complaint alleges.

The boy’s mother did not allow her son to attend school on Oct. 4 because of the marks on his face, the complaint states.

Estrella Polanco was arrested on Thursday at his job, the complaint states. He told deputies that he verbally disciplined his son and put him in timeout, the complaint states, and that the boy’s injuries are from wrestling together.

Polanco has been charged with child endangerment, child abuse and assault and battery of a family or household member. A hearing in this case has been set for Thursday in Shenandoah County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Estrella Polanco is being held without bond at the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail.
