Crash kills Linden woman, six others hospitalized
Aimee Nicole Shemwell, 29, of Linden, died in a crash at 7:15 p.m. Monday in Warren County, according to Virginia State Police Sgt. F. “Les” Tyler.
Shemwell was in the passenger seat of a 2004 GMC Yukon SUV as the vehicle traveled southbound on Winchester Road. Her husband, Michael Spencer Shemwell, 29, also of Linden, was driving the SUV and took a left turn to get onto Country Club Road when a tractor trailer traveling northbound on Winchester Road collided with the vehicle.
The Shemwells’ four children were also in the car at the time of the crash. One child was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital and the other three were transported to Warren Memorial Hospital.
Tyler confirmed that all passengers in the SUV were obeying proper vehicle restraint laws.
The crash investigation was led by trooper K. J. Orr.
“This investigation determined that … the traffic signal for the Yukon was red when it made a left turn and the northbound-lane traffic had a green light,” Tyler said.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Frankie Donnie Breeding, 57, of Luray, was also taken to Warren Memorial Hospital.
Orr was assisted at the scene by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Warren County Fire and Rescue. The Virginia Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control.
