Front Royal resident wanted on sex charges is captured
The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Front Royal resident Michael Edward Haymond in West Virginia on Wednesday.
Haymond, 57, has been wanted since early November by Front Royal police on a total of four warrants, two of which are for charges of rape of a child less than 13 years old and the other two for charges of sodomy of a child less than 13 years old.
Haymond was arrested in the town of Augusta in Hampshire County, West Virginia, said Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Cole Barnhart.
“I believe this was his mother’s address,” Barnhart said.
U.S. marshals had been watching the trailer, he said.
Haymond tried to evade arrest by hiding under a trailer after slipping through a trap door inside.
“He realized we were not going anywhere,” Barnhart said, adding that Haymond came out from his hiding spot and was taken into custody without incident.
Haymond is being held at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Augusta awaiting extradition.
There is no time frame as to when Haymond will be brought back to the area,” said Front Royal police Sgt. Jason Winner.
