The clerk of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County Circuit Court intends to run for U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte’s seat in Congress next year.

Chaz W. Haywood announced his plans Tuesday to seek the Republican Party nomination to run in Virginia’s 6th Congressional District in 2018. Haywood was elected to his first, 8-year term as clerk in 2007. Haywood, 47, worked as an aide to Goodlatte and later to former Republican U.S. Sen.
