Still On Schedule

Construction crews from Kanawha Stone Company Inc., of Nitro, West Virginia, prepare to set a concrete box beam being lifted by a crane on the Stony Creek bridge near Columbia Furnace west of Edinburg this week. Construction of this western bridge abutment required contractors to install a series of pilings about 40 feet deep. This was not part of the original design, so it delayed the project by about seven weeks, a Virginia Department of Transportation spokesman said. The contractor is still ahead of schedule and plans opening the bridge next spring. Rich Cooley/Daily
