Bond denied, preliminary hearing set in child rape case
FRONT ROYAL — A January preliminary hearing has been set in the case involving a local man accused of multiple counts of rape.
Mike Edward Haymond, 57, was arrested on Nov. 30 in West Virginia and extradited on Friday to Front Royal after being wanted on four arrest warrants charging two counts of rape and two counts of forcible sodomy against victims under 13 years old. According to the criminal complaints in this case, Haymond assaulted one 11-year-old girl and one 9-year-old girl “numerous times” over several years, the victims told investigators in forensic interviews on Oct. 27 and Nov. 6. Haymond submitted to a polygraph examination on Nov. 8 in reference to the allegations against one of the victims and “he did not pass,” the criminal complaints allege.
One complaint also notes that there have been allegations of similar crimes against Haymond as far back as 1999.
Haymond was denied bond during a hearing on Monday in Warren County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, and is being held in Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail. A preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 18 in that court, which is Haymond’s next scheduled appearance. The charges Haymond is facing each carry a mandatory minimum sentence of life imprisonment.
