A mobile camper parked in the 300 block of Osage Stret in Front Royal was destroyed in a fire Thursday, the Warren County Department of Fire and Rescue Services stated in a news release.

Fire and rescue units received a call regarding the fire at 4:38 p.m. Thursday and were able to contain the fire before any injuries were sustained. They were assisted by bystanders and the Front Royal Police Department.

A nearby apartment building and a vehicle belonging to one of the tenants were both damaged by the blaze. The fire department was successfully able to evacuate the building during the incident.

“It appears that the camper was being used as a dwelling unit while in violation of town ordinances,” said Fire Marshal Gerry Maiatico.

Maiatico declined to release the name of the camper’s owner.

The cause of the fire remains under active investigation.

Maiatico asks anyone with information to contact the Warren County Fire Marshal’s Office at 540- 638-3830 or Detective David Fogle of the Front Royal Police Department at 540-636-2208 or email dfogle@frontroyalva.com.
