Town cuts bridge weight limit
FRONT ROYAL – The town alerted motorists Tuesday afternoon that the Prospect Street bridge over Happy Creek could no longer handle vehicles heavier than five tons.
The town changed the posted maximum weight limit for the bridge near Commerce Avenue from 10 tons to five tons. The town provided no other information about the restriction Tuesday.
The alert states that the Virginia Department of Transportation advised the town of the change in the weight limit. VDOT spokeswoman Sandy Myers said Tuesday that a department official received a report from a consultant for the town that had inspected the bridge. The department official made the recommendation based on the consultant’s report, Myers said.
