New Market man accused of brandishing rifle

New Market police arrested a man after investigating a report that he brandished a rifle at his housemate during an argument Friday.

Around 9:30 p.m. Friday, a New Market Police Department officer was called to a residence in the 9500 block of South Congress Street, according to a department news release. Ray Leggett, 80, of New Market, was arrested without incident and charged with brandishing a firearm.

Chief Chris Rinker confirmed the two men knew each other and lived in the same building, and said he is not aware of whether or not the two are related.

He also confirmed that there were no injuries to any party involved. Leggett was released from custody on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in General District Court at 9 a.m. March 2.
