Winchester Toys R Us employees learn of store’s closing
Toy store chain Toys R Us announced Wednesday it was closing all 735 of its U.S. stores, including the store located near Apple Blossom Mall in Winchester. Employees at that store were notified Thursday, a store employee said.
The closing timeline for the Winchester store as well as for stores across the country is to be decided and the company hopes to be able to share details of the logistics of the closing soon, a Toys R Us spokesperson stated in an emailed reply to questions on Thursday.
The company will launch liquidation sales soon, the spokesperson noted.
Customers have 30 days to use store gift cards. The store spokesperson did not answer whether customers will be able to cash out those cards.
Closing Toys R Us, which had shuttered 182 stores in January, will impact as many as 33,000 employees. The company did not provide an exact count of workers at the Winchester store, but the spokesperson noted that have on average of about 25 to 30 full-time employees per store.
