A Strasburg man died in a single-car crash late Thursday afternoon on U.S. 11 around Mt. Hebron Road near Strasburg.

Virginia State Police said the victim, identified as Dustin Daniel Baker, 20, died at the scene as a result injuries sustained in the crash.

Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler of the state police said Baker was southbound around 4:50 p.m. on U.S. 11, about three-tenths of a mile north of Mt. Hebron Road, when his 2002 Volkswagen Jetta entered a right-hand curve, crossed into the northbound lane and went off the road to the left where he struck a utility pole.

The impact split the 45-foot-pole into three pieces. Traffic on the road was detoured down Mt. Hebron or Battlefield roads in the aftermath of the crash.

Tyler said Baker was wearing a seat belt and was alone in the car at the time of the crash. State trooper M.T. Brill investigated the crash and received assistance at the scene from members of the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office, fire and rescue units from Toms Brook and Strasburg and the Virginia Department of Transportation.
