LINDEN – A Sunday fire caused an estimated $282,000 in damages to a Linden home, Fire Chief Richard Mabie stated in a news release on Monday.

Rescue units were dispatched about 5:20 p.m. Sunday to the 600 block of Brandy Road in the Apple Mountain West subdivision  after reports of a deck fire, Mabie said. Upon their arrival, the flames spread from the deck to the first floor and through the roof.

The lone occupant managed to escape and began extinguishing the fire, Mabie said. Six fire companies – Linden, Front Royal, Shenandoah Shores, and Warren County – arrived, and flames were “under control at 6 p.m.” Units remained on the scene for several hours until all of the hot spots were fully extinguished.

The resident was displaced by the fire “with only the clothes he had on” and is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross, the release said.

The fire is under investigation by the Warren County Fire and Rescue Service’s Fire Marshal  office.
