Man arrested on rape charges

Baterdene Batjargal

WARREN COUNTY – An Arlington man was arrested Sunday morning on rape charges stemming from an incident in the Gooney Creek Campground, according to a Warren County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Baterdene Batjargal, 21, was charged with one felony count of rape and one misdemeanor count of identity theft.

The release states that Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at about 5 a.m. Sunday to the Gooney Creek Campground.

Warren County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Daniel Maxfield declined to comment on who reported the incident or any other details because he said the case remains under investigation.

Maxfield said Batjargal was an “acquaintance” of the victim. Maxfield noted that Batjargal and the victim were not family members, good friends, neighbors “or anything like that.”

Maxfield said the identity theft charges arose when Batjargal presented police with false identification during the investigation.

Batjargal is being held without bond at the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail and is due in Warren County General District Court  at 10 a.m. today.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact Sgt. Maxfield at 540-635-7100 or at sgtmaxfield@warrencountysheriff.org.
