Four vehicle crash sends Winchester man to hospital
A multiple vehicle crash on U.S 340 at Route 644 left a Winchester man injured.
Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler, of the Virginia State Police said Charles L. Tinsman, 72, was taken from the scene of the crash with injuries. His medical status on Friday was unknown.
Tinsman was driving a 2001 Chevy pickup northbound on U.S. 340 and slowed to make a left hand turn. Tinsman was then struck from behind by a 2016 Nissan driven by Robert R. Burns, 38, of Sterling.
Tinsman’s truck was hit a second time when a second crash occurred at the scene. Judy M. Presgraves, 61, from Boyes, driving a 2007 Toyota SUV pulled off to the right shoulder when she came upon the crash. Her vehicle was hit by Steven P. Riputen, 65, of Millwood who then hit Tinsman’s pickup truck.
The Virginia State Patrol charged Burns with following too closely, Tyler said. The second crash is appears to be still be under investigation, Tyler said.
