MIDDLETOWN – Gary Fletcher has been named by town officials as Middletown’s Citizen of the Year.

“He has done a lot for Middletown,” said Rebecca Layman, town manager. “He is a fabulous guy, always willing to help out.”

Fletcher, who is a Korean War veteran, played a key role in the town’s construction of its Veterans Memorial by using his contacts to raise money or obtain in-kind donations.

He has also assisted in the renovation of the Town Hall, from the flagpole to building or obtaining the soon-to-be-installed sign in front of the town offices.

Fletcher was nominated by town officials and was chosen for the honor at Monday night’s Town Council meeting.

Also at that meeting, council members set a work session meeting for 7 p.m. July 2.

Council members Tom Simon, Carol Aliff, George Smith, Jeff Pennington, Carole Snyder Jones and Scott Fink were present at the meeting.
