Triplett Tech’s Summer Academy underway

Triplett Tech is hosting its second Summer Academy for prospective students to take a look at the school and check out a class they are interested in.

The academy runs from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. through the remainder of this week. Anyone interested can call Triplett Tech at 540-477-3161 to see if a spot is available.

Current seventh and eighth graders in the Shenandoah County schools can learn about the individual classes being offered and decide if they want to pursue one of those areas as a career, said Triplett Tech Principal Connie Pangle.

Those who are interested in attending choose one course of study and stay in it the rest of the week, Pangle said.

“This was popular when we did it before (in 2016), so we decided to do it again.”

Students can participate in hands-on activities in this year’s academy offerings of auto technology, auto body, criminal justice, culinary arts, cybersecurity, healthcare and building trades.

Building trades will combine masonry, carpentry, and electricity throughout the week.

The popular courses tend to be culinary arts, criminal justice, and health care, Pangle said.
